Bali’s population of over 3,000,000 are, for the most part, Hindus,whose life centres around the villages with each community looking after temple ceremonies, marriage, cremation, farming and even the creative art festivals. The local government is mostly responsible for schools, health clinics, hospitals and roads, and the community is responsible for all other aspects of life.
The production of rice with its complex irrigation system is overseen by another community group to ensure that every farmer in the group(usually 50 to 150 members) gets his fair distribution of water.

For the visitor Bali is colour: The lush green of the rice paddies; the squawking blues and reds of the birdlife; the startling white of the cottons worn by locals; the gold of Balinese Dance costumes; the variety of moss covered stone temples; the varied hues of the orchids and other flowers; it all adds up to profusion of colour which delights the visitor’s eye.
But when you ask anyone who has visited Bali, "What's the best thing about Bali?" Their response is usually the same - "the people".

Feb 12 Sun Arrive Bali	Changing aircraft in Hong Kong continue to Denpasar Airport where you will be met and transferred to the Bali Intercontinental Hotel on Jimbaran Beach. Reminder of the day at leisure.
Feb 13 Mon Jimbaran Beach	A day at leisure to catch up with the time zones!   This evening a welcome dinner at the Majolly Restaurant. [BD]
Feb 14 Tue Jimbaran to Lovina	Visit  the stunning temple of Tanah Lot;  the Atlas Kedaton Forest, home to hundreds of tame monkeys;  Taman Ayun Temple.  After lunch, enjoy the picturesque scenery as you drive through the rice terraces; stopping to view the Ulun Danu Temple in the centre of Lake Bratan. Continue through coffee plantations to Lovina Beach on the north coast. Puri Bagus Hotel Lovina. [BL]
Feb 15 Wed Lovina	Early morning departure by traditional fishing boat to view the dolphins, then return to the hotel for breakfast. This morning visit Sawan where the villagers are traditional makers of gamelan gongs and other gamelan instruments. Continue to Gitgit WaterFalls The afternoon at leisure [BD]
Feb 16 Thu  Lovina to Candidasa	Depart for Kintamani via Singaraja - the former capital of Bali. En route visit the 15th century Beji Temple. Enjoy lunch in Kintamani overlooking Lake Batur, lying in the shadow of Batur volcano. Proceed to the 1,000 year old temple of Besakih on the slopes of Mount Agung, which rises more than 3,000m above sea level. Late afternoon drive to Candidasa.   Rama Hotel Candidasa.[BL]
Feb 17 Fri Candidasa	Spend the day exploring Eastern Bali. Visit Tenganan - this immaculately kept village is famous for weaving the 'geringsing' - a cloth that may take years to weave as the patterns of the textile are dyed to their final design whilst still in the thread stage.  Continue to Taman Ujung Pleasure Palace.  With an outstanding view to the Lombok Strait over rice paddy fields, this water palace was the passion of the late King of Karangasem. Sadly the palace was badly damaged in the Mt. Agung eruption of 1963.  Finally visit Tirtagganga Water Gardens.  Built a few years later by the late King of Karangasem this water-garden plays host to bathing pools fed by cool springs, ornamental water features and a swimming pool. Feb 18 Sat Candidasa to Ubud	Continue exploration of Bali - drive to to Tihingan Village known as the producer of Gamelan, traditional music instruments made from bronze or copper, used to accompany Balinese dances and some ritual ceremonies. The villagers are descendant of Pande family, those experts in metal related business. Nearby  Kamasan Village is known from its puppet paintings and silver and copper handicrafts. Later visit Goa Gajah.  Many people see the temple entrance as a carved elephant’s head. Originally the cave temple was a home for Hindu priests. Arrive in Ubud in the late afternoon to stay 3 nights at the Tjampuhan Hotel in Rajah Rooms. [BL]
Feb 19 Sun Exploring Ubud	What a day! See intricate rice paddy terraces; a forest with mischievous monkeys; a former Royal Palace; an ornate and beautiful Hindu Temple; a bustling market and much more. In addition watch a Barong Dance - a colourful story of the fight between good and evil; and finally learn a little about Balinese cooking as you help prepare dinner! [BLD]
Feb 20 Mon Ubud	Free day. Lots of time to explore on your own - perhaps the painting museum or a yoga class - the choice is yours. [B]
Feb 21 Tue Ubud to  Jimbaran Beach	To-day we explore craft villages en route to Jimbaran. Mas Villagers are skilled wood carvers with complex works that will amaze you; in nearby Celuk gold and silversmiths produce ornaments and jewellery. Finally Batubulan where stone carving is the major skill although it is also a major centre for Balinese dance. In the late afternoon arrive at Jimbaran Beach and the Bali Intercontinental Hotel. Feb 22 Wed J imbaran Beach	Morning at leisure. In mid-afternoon visit Jenggala Gallery where you can see how to make ceramics, then continue to Garuda Wisnu Kencana, a Balinese landmark which lies on a high location from which you can enjoy beautiful panoramic views surrounding the island. Next stop will be at one of the beautiful temples located on top of a cliff and overlooking Indian Ocean. A number of monkeys dwelling the surrounding completed the beauty of the view while enjoy the sunset you can see the Kecak Dance at Uluwatu temple complex. [B]
Feb 23 Thu Jimbaran Beach	The day at leisure. This evening a Farewell Dinner at Bumbu Bali restaurant – Balinese risjtaffel dinner The extravagant beauty of the Indonesian Island of Bali is reflected in its unique cuisine. Discover the destination through its food, and treat yourself to a cuisine which features such delights as Roast Duck in Banana Leaf, Roast Suckling Pig, Tuna Salad with Shallot Dressing, Rice-Flour cake and many more unusual creations which are certain to please even the palates of Bali’s fabled gods. 24 Fri Bali - Hong Kong	After a leisurely morning leave by Cathay Pacific flight for Hong Kong. On arrival transfer to the Kowloon to stay 2 nights. [B]
25 Sat Hong Kong	Enjoy a half day island tour visiting Victoria Peak, Stanley Market, Aberdeen Fishing Village and an optional sampan ride (paid locally). The afternoon is at leisure. [B]
26 Sun Homeward Bound	Transfer to Hong Kong Airport for Cathay Pacific flight to Toronto or Vancouver CROSS INTERNATIONAL DATE LINE - Gain 24 HOURS
