It is also just about the most popular destination for those who choose a custom-made holiday, probably
because of the variety it offers.
A foursome recently decided that they had 17 days to do a self drive holiday in the Loire Valley, Burgundy
and Provence ending on the Riviera for a couple of days. They liked the idea of staying in chateaux,
sampling wine, dining out, visiting a few special sites and travelling off the beaten track.
We gave them a proposal, made a couple of minor changes and then booked the precise vehicle they
wanted, a variety of chateaux and manoirs in delightful locations, made dinner reservations at two or three
locations, gave them large-scale up-to-date maps to cover their entire route as well as a detailed routing for
each day. We also gave them ideas on shops to visit is some locations for that special reminder - a fabric
store in Aix en Provence for instance.
We also told them they did not have to follow our routing!
All of this for not much more than the cost of a first class escorted tour.
And from what we hear they had a great time.....
